Empowering Women...

Last Friday i had this opportunity to listen Dr Mahathir's speech on progressive society..While i was rather amused by this sharp-tongued former PM, i was rather sceptical about his questions on equality (between men and women, of course)...

A progressive nation, is a place where we find women equally empowered as men..
That's how i see it....

The question is..how do we empower women? How do women will be given the equal status to men? and....what does exactly we mean by equal status??

Dr Mahathir put it this way...."Initially, we gave women the rights to vote, thus enabling them to participate in elections..giving them the first equal rights to women..now, women are equal (or almost equal) with men in many sectors..but does that mean they can sleep around as well, just like some men do? Does that mean giving them equal rights?'

Ah....that made me to think...what is equal rights for women? Education empowers the women...Voting rights empowers the women...When comes to the issue of morality...how does one 'empowers' the women??

My previous two articles (plus with this one) might potray me as a feminist....i AM a feminist if it means questioning on issues pertaining to women...but i definitely do not deny the role of men in women's life..we need men, as much as they need us... :)

Have just uploaded a photo of Dr Mahathir which i manage to click just in time before he walked away..

Very clever post Amu!

Battle of the sexes shall begin now lol...

Personally I dont think empowering women can be done by a government or some new set of rules. We can never do it on a global level especially when it comes to a woman's personal life. Empowerment should blossom within oneself...each woman should work on it on their own...they should have a grip on themselves n work towards their goals n do what they like, irrespective of how the world may see them. That's Empowerment to me.

thank you dear..

Providing equal rights to women is totally different from the isssue of sleepign around.

Empowering women would only mean to stop considering them as a weak link when compered to male species. What a man can do, I think its possible in today's era any lady can achieve it too.

I believe morality can't be empowered...it comes from within. Male species sleeping around...do you think this is a nice thing to do in a society?? Do you consider sleeping around as a challenge which you'll readily take if empowered?? I dont think so...

I agree with z000nie...sleeping ard is for ppl with no conscience whatsoever and no morals n believe me there r heaps of men as well as women who do this! so empowering women is a totally different area altogether n it should be based upon strengths not vulgarity :)

yes arz00n & keshi, sleeping around shouldn't be the 'marker' of one's empowerment..be it among men or women..

What a man can do, I think its possible in today's era any lady can achieve it too.....this is something i was expecting from a man..and i am glad it came from u ;)
