Women & Beauty

Alright, after an endless debate (especially with mr arz00n), i guess now its the time for me to point out some of my views on women and their perceived meaning of beauty...

Women are beautiful creatures...
How far is this statement true?
Or how do you judge a woman's beauty?

In Malaysia, weight management (or is it mismanagement) and cosmetic industry is mushrooming..While, it is a challenge for nutritionists and dieticians like me to educate public, especially women on the ideal way of managing their weight, we tend to lose out to the industry. Some even resort to slimming pills and beauty products which are not registered just to achieve the desired look/figure in a short period of time..Some even risking their life for it (in case of Slimming 10 issue)..Why are they doing this? We are not talking about uneducated rural women here..we are talking about career minded young women, teenagers, young wives with good educational background..

So, what is the core of this problem?

Is it their perception of beauty? Is it their believe that beauty of a woman lies on beautiful skin and thin figure? Is it the social expectation of them to be 'beautiful'? Or...is it men's (bf / husband) expectation?

Today, while driving my car to campus, i was listening to an advertisement program about a type of 'cosmetic undergarment' which is suppose to reduce the unwanted fat and gives the desired shape to the body. I can't help myself but to laugh at it..I was telling myself, "ammu, it is a waste for you pursuing masters degree in nutrition..these 'un-trained nutritionists' are doing your work and even earning more money than you possibly can"..Thats when i hear some so-called testimonials on the product..One women was telling "After using this XXX undergraments, i was able to reduced so much of my weight. Now, i get to wear sexier and modern clothings. My husbands is paying more attention to me then ever"...hmm..now, that is not a laughing matter...

Now, there is reality show going on in Malaysia..it is about women & beauty...the rule is simple: IF you think you are beautiful inside and out, send in your application. Now, i am waiting for the show to kick off..can't wait to see who is going to be Malaysia's most beautiful woman...well..actually i am more interested to see the mindset of Malaysians in this matter :P

So, amidst all this fuss about women-cosmetic products-weight loss centres-beauty pageants and so on..

What does BEAUTY means to you?

Well personally weight isn't a big issue for me, it's always the inside beauty that attracts me to a girl.

However, instead of always blaming the husband or bf has anyone ever wondered if whether the woman herself wants to look slim/fit?

tulipspeaks said...

well..it is not that we want to blame any party for this..

a woman may wnt to look slim/fit/beautiful..it may be related to one's self confidence..but then, what does this confidence means? does it means..'ah, everyone thinks i am beautiful..after this people going to pay attention to me..no one can say NO to me anymore..no one can deny my presence any longer?

err...am i talking about demand and supply here?? :P

Great topic to debate on Amu :) Well-written!

First of all I want to say I neva went on any diets in my life so far to slim down (n I have a body that tends to put on weight if I dun lookafter myself). All I eva did was exercise n that too in moderate levels (aerobics n gym maybe not more than 3 times a week). Yes I watch what I eat but not obsessively. I dun deny myself of pleasure that way! And I think I'm looking fine :)

I really dun u'stand women who put their life on the line to lose weight by going through harsh diets n weight mgmt programs. I know that some people cant manage their weight on their own so they need help, but majority of women these days do it at the risk of health, happiness n simple pleasures in life. That is not right! Women who want to deprive themselves of fun n great food in life for the sake of looking hot for some man who dun even think of her for more than that 30mins per day, r totally dumb. I say do it the rihgt way - eat well (but cut off the junk), exercise regularly n live happily...

All marketing campaigns for quick weight-loss programs r targetted at women with a low self-confidence n like u say Amu, confidence isnt only abt looking gorgeous...it's abt how u carry urself smart. I luv Robbie Williams n my cuzn bros say goshh he's short...but i believe he has a very tall personality :)

Well I agree with 4u2navau/rohit, coz if a men only goes after woman’s outer beauty, till he dies he can't be able to find a women whom he is attracted the most coz it can be said each and everyday we meet a women who is much more “beautiful” TODAY and attractive than a woman that we think she is “gorgeous and unbeatable” YESTERDAY.

It’s also proven that there are many couples either bf/gf or husband/wife are leaving an Happy life till there are separated by nature….death I mean….here the inner beauty plays its role. Outer beauty is a temporary beauty coz it may fade as time turns its page…it may also be gone due to our physical damage or accidents. So is outer beauty is together with us always like our inner beauty is? Answer….definitely NO….coz our inner beauty is with us form the 1st day we are born till the last breath of us.

For me….no matter either it’s a man or a women, INNER BEAUTY ALWAYS REMAIN

Ok well thats a whole different story, if someone wants to loose weight to be "popular" I would say they got some major self-esteem problems.

Popularity doesn't come from someones looks or physique, it comes from how interesting you find the person and how well you gel with them(which also means inner beauty). Unfortunately, some gel with alotta people and some don't get at all.

lollll@ demand and supply

Sometimes they misunderstand the word of "BEAUTY"...when they only concern their appreance....and forgot the rest

lolz amu sorry mate...this n000nie always distracts me :)

ok beauty is what u perceive it to be...at the end of the day, it's very subjective. To me it means both of inner (alot) and a little bit of outer beauty...mostly inner beauty is what really matters...

for a pretty face is useless if she dun possess a beautiful heart...

I'll start with a quote, which everyone knws about "Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder".

If I've to make a reply to your Q in front of good-n-decent crowd, my gentleman reply will be, outside beauty is like a bubble..its not going to last for long. If you fall for beauty, remember you carry a high probability of backing off.

Ever thuoght of this...no actress comes in front of camera once they get old. Why?? Coz they ruled the screen when they were "sexy"...now they dont want people to look at them.

And now if its to discuss with my friend circle (who most of the time talk about "figures"), I'd say beauty is obviously what appears to your eyes. Slim, perfect assests, perfect figure....mmmmm...

So it depends on what context you want you question to be replied.

Is it their perception of beauty?
This is all fake. People especially females are pressurised by the society they are staying in.

Is it their believe that beauty of a woman lies on beautiful skin and thin figure?
Most of the marriages fail coz hubby is not happy with the way his partner looks. Why?? coz this secretary carries the concept beauty of a woman lies on beautiful skin and thin figure. Now who is to blame for here? The other female...right?
Dont you think, its the female competition here?
Yes..her husband may be wrong too...Im not saying males dont make mistakes.

Is it the social expectation of them to be 'beautiful'? Or...is it men's (bf / husband) expectation?
I'd never appreciate to be part of such a fake society. But I know, I'll be forced to continue my life in it. That does not mean that I'd give up my thoughts and accept what SOCIETY has to say.

Im not sure what future has in store for me...how my life partner will be like...but one thing is sure, it'll definitely not ONLY beaty for which Im gonna marry her. Its her way of thinking and definitely her brain. Hehehe...I want my kids to carry her brain genes, I dont want them to be bizarre like me :)

Nice post!!

amutha, amazin post,i come from a school-from which half of our indian stars r produced,so ive always been around popular, and figure concious people.Thats all the more reason for me to understand that these people are fake.Everyone wants to look beautiful, but then i wouldnt wanna put on an artifical look jus so dat i can appeal to more people. To me,what matters is d person's heart, and as we said in d previous post, whats ugly?I think a person who doesnt have a good heart is ugly, and a person who has a good heart is gorgeous.
Well, yeh thats my way of looking at things...
