Dress CODE

I always gain attention for the kind of clothes that i wore..before u start imagining, let me stress here I wear decent clothes okie? I once posted a pic of mine taken during last year Deepavali..and the amount of enquiries i received about the pic was over-whelming..nah.. i'm not boasting..but mainly the question that was asked sounds like this:

  • are u married?
  • why are u wearing bangles?
  • why are u wearing traditional clothes?
  • what was the occasion?
  • do you only wear traditional clothes during Deepavali (Diwali)?
  • do you go out wearing this kinda clothes?
  • do Malaysians dress this way?

while i don't dress that way everyday.. but i have this soft spot for sarees, salwar (called punjabi suits here) or churiddar and kurtis.. i love them..and kurti has become my uniform for almost every other day..at the same time, i am not wearing traditional clothes because i wanna show off that i am a real indian or kudumbathuketha kutu vilake (sorry guys, i dont know how to translate this..but basically it means homely looking indian gal)...its just that i feel comfortable with them..

i used to wear ultra mini skirt and low cut blouses when i was in my teen..and now i do wear baby-tees..sleeveless.. jeans, short skirt, blouses.. etc.. and i have gal frens who loves modern clothes..does that make them less indian?

what is being indian means anyway? is it all about holding an indian citizenship? or is it about clading oneself with 6ft long saree everyday? does wearing sarees, salwars and kurtis going to reflect the indian inside us?

hi

i don think Cothes going to reflect the india inside us....

If such that then ask some guy y he doesnot wear DHOTI and KURTA... that is what our GRANDPA's Grandpa were wearing....

I believe 1should wear cothes which he \she like and which he\she feel comfortable....

i like the thing abt u from this post is...."i am not wearing traditional clothes because i wanna show off that i am a real indian or kudumbathuketha kutu vilake (sorry guys, i dont know how to translate this..but basically it means homely looking indian gal)...its just that i feel comfortable with them.."

good keep it up

I believe your choice of cothing reflects your personality more than anything else. Any patriotic feelings have nothing to do with what you wear

id say dress up according to the occasion and place

its totally ridiculous to wear short skirts or tight pants to a place where you'll be sitting on the ground and though dancing in a saree can be done its really not the best thing to wear at a club - theres nothing wrong with dressing modern or traditonal its best to have a balance

someone must have triggered this

tell whoever it is - ones clothes does not convay a persons character - if said person was so old fashioned they should be donning only those clothes as well.

"kudumbathuketha kutu vilake"...haha..thats wat most of the indian guys in uni wants...did u know that we've created modern versions of "kudumbathuketha candle" and kudumbathuketha bulbs"

yeah ammu...wearing indian clothes does not potray the true indian in know..i guess its more of ur value's and principles...

if u've noticed..i do not adorn the "pottu" or "bindi" on regular basis..simply, because i'm not used to it and its my choice not to do so..i've been shunned by many because of this...but i still think its my personal decision..

i'm still very much south indian although i wear shorts and dont wear a pottu...

If such that then ask some guy y he doesnot wear DHOTI and KURTA... that is what our GRANDPA's Grandpa were wearing....

i don't really understand what u exactly meant.. still trying to figure it out :P mind explaining this?

I believe 1should wear cothes which he \she like and which he\she feel comfortable....

i agree..those days i love to wear mini skirts..now i don't.. its just a matter of personal choice.. thats all..

@ michelle

err.. u know i dont know hindi nah? but i think there was a SRK's movie based on the last line..kekeke..am i rite?

@ uttara

its not indian culture u talking abt .. its the siuth indians mentality u talking abt

hmm.. if i comprehend this statement.. it comes up sumthing like.."south indian mentality rrquiring women folk to dress accordingly all the time".. is that what u meant sweetie?

@ dewdy

Any patriotic feelings have nothing to do with what you wear

not exactly about patriotism here..its about culture..do we need to adorn ourselves in traditional clothes to reflect on our culture?

@ visithra

excellent examples! balance is the key..

someone must have triggered this

yea of course.. i wasn't thinking of posting this till i spoke to this guy..

@ praveen

thats wat most of the indian guys in uni wants

i always kindal pannuran this kind of guys.. their mentality is like this.. "need a modern gal to lepak with and a KKK to get married to".. actually i hv a harsher quote as well.. i tell u in msn when we chat okie? :P

if u've noticed..i do not adorn the "pottu" or "bindi" on regular basis

for me, it is not a problem..its of personal choice.

once i remember there was a program in THR raaga..the DJ was asking ppl's opinion on married women wearing kumkum on their parting.. coz on his opinion, tamilian doesn't wear it that way..only nothern indian does and this is all influence of movies blah blah blah..

i was like..what the heck! its up to that woman where to put her kumkum..it doesn't make her less tamilachi coz she wanna put it on her parting isn't it? .. dumb ppl with dumb program..

we should know, for which function what type of dress we should were. We can wear any dress on our own, but the dress should cover our body and also it should be comfortabel.

nah. wearing sarees all day long does not reflect you being an indian. i think one has to feellike an indian. if that doesn`t make sense, i do not know how to explain better.
