Opinion: As Personal As It May Gets

I'm a person with different views, most of the time is not always..

Many may not understand what this statement means but I bet someone does..While I agree I'm not a great fan of online groups (such as yahoo groups), forums or debates.. but I'm a member of some groups which I don't wish to name here..and sometimes I wish I was not..

One of the thing which put me off will be the mental attitude of not only the members but also the moderators of the online groups, forums, webs..and my focus are on groups concerning Indians or students or a particular group of target..

As we know, these groups have a set of rules and regulations..may be moderators find it rather classy to have rules such as "no discussion on sex, gender, politics, religion".. "no offensive remarks".."no personal attack on other member of the group/forum".."no one-line comment/response".... but such rules are not followed at all! I just hate people who set a certain rule but failed to adhere to it! What puzzles me is the care-free culture of these so-called moderators who have very opportunity to screen each and every comment/response before approving it!

Some people seems like do not understand the meaning of 'public forum' at all.. A public forum meant to be a forum/platform for members to air their views (subjected to the regulations and focus of the forum) and each relevant response should be dealt with some level of dignity by the moderators..there are instances I find certain post offensive or irrelevant to the forum, but when someone pointed it out.. other members (and moderators) would just blantantly ask the them to delete the post if they don't like it..basically they are asking them to shut up and read whatever posted there! I don't see why a member wasn't given the rights to air their views! What is the purpose of the forum anyway? To shut other members up?

Poor command of language is another setback.. While I must admit I'm not an English language professor, I'm trying to write in proper English.. Learning from my mistakes, re-writing certain comments/posts few times before I got it (almost) right..but it is not the case with some forums, where I've seen poor members who were trying in vain to get other members to write in proper English, only to be told to mind their own business..

Now, you may think..why must I still be a member of these groups.. well, as I said.. my views are different.. I'm just trying to seek some knowledge in the online world and I find forums/groups as a good source of information pertaining to certain topics, apart from my points above..

And my verdict...blogs are better medium for intelligent debate and to air one's opinion..
Why? You know it for yourself.. :)

Actually I never did anything deeply on the net..be it chat/groups/forums etc...I used to chat once and found it real boring real quick :) Forums I go to very occassionally to put my 2c worth....but I havent been subjected to any misinformed forum managers' unfair dismissal of my comments...but Amu dun forget that some of the ppl who manage such forums can be poorly informed in whatever the topics they want us to discuss or even ppl who have no forum-management-skills...cos these forums r driven by ppl after all...if they delete something that u think is quite relevant to the subject (subjected to the regulations), then write to them an email and tell them what u feel...

Im totally with u on this one...blogging is a much better medium to have intelligent, open and unbiased conversations :)

I agree with you about these "public" forums that allow us to speak our minds.. .as long as it doesn't upset the moderator... ..pffff.... what a joke... ;)

@ puneet

they r good source of info..but its the attitude of moderators n members that put us down..

sadly such good forums (or topic) r marred by these ppl..

@ luv

public" forums that allow us to speak our minds.. .as long as it doesn't upset the moderator
then, what is the use of having public forum.. they should just write it in their personal diaries!

okay this comes as a big one.. as be owning 3 groups and a moderator for 7 groups and 1 forum, well It all counts on how you take it and how moving and interesting the group/forum is!

But defintely blogs are better medium to post an individual's thoughT!

praveen said...

ok am000nie...isnt it pretty obvious here...which forum is at question??

i'm also a member there and i feel its sick the way most ppl act there...uncivilised...and not worth ur time so ill have to agree with visithra over here...

btw, bloggies are definitely better..to do away with all the crap...

I think rules are made for the only reason i.e., to be broken by someone.
