Dogathon UPM

One of the reasons why I love my former uni was for its huge green campus. Its is something unique to the campus and envy of other campuses :P.

Having a huge campus always have its advantages and disadvantages. Disadvantage - you may kill yourself trying to walk from one end to another end. Advantage - less crowded, space for more activities to be done etc. Dogathon is one such activity which is held annually - an event not to be missed by any dog-lover. My friends and I joined for this year's Dogathon, having missed the earlier ones. This year, UPM break the record by having the most number of dogs (>600) registered for the event! Impressive!!

Some photos to share...

Dogathon UPM 2008
Dogathon is an annual event organized by the Faculty of Veterinary, UPM. This is the first stop for the dogs where they are examined and given tags before proceeding to the registration counter.

I always have this thing for Huskies, descendants of the wolves. They never fail to mesmerize me with their bright blue eyes.

Such a poser...

Dogathon UPM 2008
I am sure this one is owned by a Chinese girl! :-P

Dogathon UPM 2008
Sheep-dog? Looks different..

Dogathon UPM 2008
This guy was huge and look at the girl, doesn't she looks sacred?

Dogathon UPM 2008
Pet-grooming service was also available and they seems to be very happy doing it (actually they started giggling when I tried taking their photo).

Dogathon UPM 2008
Maze - one of the games they organized for the dogs and owners.

Dogathon UPM 2008
Forgot the name of the games but so many of them participated in this event. Reminds me of sukaneka back in primary school. Hehehehe..

Dogathon UPM 2008
Dog Idol - something like a beauty pageant but in addition to the parade, the dogs are also required to perform tricks.

Golden Tag

Its suppose to be Golden Post + Flickr Tag - a 2 in 1 post.

The Tag:
I was tagged ages ago by Shantini. I rarely do tags nowadays. Only pick those I find really interesting and different. Wanted to post this 2 weeks ago but couldn't find the time to work on one till today. Pardon me for the delay, Shantini. Here we go..

The rules are:
1. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
2. Using only the first page of results, and pick one image.
3. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into Big Huge Lab’s Mosaic Maker to create a mosaic of the picture answers.

Bye bye darling

I am in new small town now, somewhere in the east coast. I am nobody's. I can't believe she basically let some thugs guys who brought me all the way here [overacting :P] . Its a long journey away from her.

I knew this is coming. She was blabbering something to me few days before she left to Johor on an official business. Actually the blabbering has started way before that. She started missing me even before she handed me over. Soft-hearted girl, she is.

Kancil 1980
Few days before she left to Johor, she gave me a bath for the last time.

But I couldn't take it when she decides to give me away when she was in Johor. I was screaming in silence when I got to know that she is not coming to say bye to me. Not even for the last time. That got me really angry. I was not going to let her to get away with this!

First, I taught her a lesson - she has to know how important I was for her. So, I blocked all the means for her to get a transport back home when she got back to her campus. After a long 5 hours journey that is. I was mean, but it worked ;-). Second, I screwed up the temporary junk car the car dealer gave her. She suppose to use that piece of metal till she gets her new car *umph!! She couldn't even get the car starts! Hehehe.. So, she had to call the dealer and yell at him, and get the car fixed. Few hours later she had to go all the way to the dealer's place to get the car again.

Kancil 1980
New pair of hands will hold this steering.. wonder whose ones that will be.

And I was there, waiting for her to come. You guys must see the reaction I saw in her face! *priceless... She was speechless for few mins seeing me (literally) on the air. She  finally realised I was the one behind the mess and apologized. I could hear her saying.. "My little baby behaves just like me!!" Hahahaha.. And I also could see drops of tears.

 Kancil 1980
Yea, that's me on top of a trailer which took me to Kelantan .

She did what she had to do. No regrets babe! I will take care of myself here and you take care also okie? You'll be getting a new car in a matter of days. I don't know if the new one will be as good as me (ahem) but you better be nice to the new darling. Don't neglect her because you still feel connected to me.

I will always remember the rants, complains, the sad stories and as well as the happy ones.I will be missing you and thank you so much for being my best buddy for 7 long years. And remember you are lot more capable than what you think you are. Okie? Muaxx!

Hmm.. I heard that dear..
I love you too.

Love,

Sex crimes

Few days back a newspaper carried an article about sex criminals. Actually it was few articles and the main article highlighted findings of a research done with jailed rapists. Let me share the key findings as published in one of the article:

  • Over 61% of respondents come from families with more than five siblings.
My interpretation - Bigger family, lesser attention to each child and more likely for the child to turn to outsiders (eg. peers) for advice and companionship, and in the end more likely to be swayed into immoral activity.

  • Over 84.5% of the rapists interviewed earned less than RM2, 000 a month with 57.8% earning below RM1, 000.
My interpretation - Lower income = lesser education, which can also means lack of sex education.

  • The majority of rapists interviewed seemed to have a positive relationship with their mothers compared to their fathers.
My interpretation - Prefer to be with a female given any situation.

  • Over half of them had their first sexual experience at an early age between 10 and 20 years old.
My interpretation - I was initially shocked to see the figure '10'!!!! I was still playing football with the boys!! Alright, early exposure to sex and definitely without much knowledge on it may be a contributing factor. Misinterpretation of sex.

  • On preferred characteristics of females, 41% chose women with long to very long hair and 75% liked slim women.
My interpretation - Longer hair, slimmer body = looking sexy. No surprises there.

  • Over half of the respondents wanted women between 10 and 29 years old.
My interpretation - 10 year old child is not even a "full" woman! Idiots!

  • Respondents were asked about their perception of women with their statements analysed using factor analysis with questions categorised into three groups: power of dominance, power of sexual desires and power of submission. The study shows that over half of them agreed that:
          – women were created to fulfil men’s desires
          – men are meant to lead women
          – women need to be taught and shown the right way.

My interpretation - male dominancy.

I truly admire the courage the researchers had. Being a researcher myself, I understand very well how it would be going on the field (in this case, a prison) and interviewing subjects (in this case, criminals). Lots of effort there! You may want to read more about it  HERE. The newspaper also highlighted few sexual crimes in one of their articles in this topic. You may read it HERE.

The research has been published in a book. You may download the e-version HERE.

This week's Nostalgic Friday is dedicated to this topic:
Happy 08.08.08 everyone!

A cocktail of photographs

Away for 2 weeks and I have so much to tell you all! Missing my blog soooo much! Not to mention this is the only thing I have with me right now :)

Thanks a lot for staying with me. The minute I posted the short note saying I'm Back, the visitor count shoots up! For that, I'm treating you all with photographs!! Here we go...

Genting Highlands
Yea, I went to Genting Highlands. Believe or not, there is no single photo of me taken :P I only have few not-so-good photos. This is the entrance of the SnowWorld in the Indoor Theme Park. I went inside once during my previous trip. Not as impressive as I expected it to be.

Genting Highlands
There was a Chinese troop performing. Reminds me of Chinese New Year :)

Genting Highlands
Gone were the days when swimsuits are meant to be 'sexy'. *sigh

Shameli's birthday
Enough about that boring trip. This is my cousin sister. She turned 6 last month. Cute ain't she?

Canon
Moving on to my another trip to rural area. It was a group 'trip'. We visited a home and the lady insisted us taking a look at her 'canon'. Apparently it has been there since the war time.

Mangosteen
I never had so much mangosteen in my life!! :D

What is this?
Found this "bird" in Segamat. The students called it Turkey-Chicken hybrid. Do you know what is it?

Grandma's 69th Birthday
Moving on to another birthday event - my grandma's 69th birthday celebration. Everything seem 'normal' in this photo.

Grandma's 69th Birthday
My nephew quickly blew the candles after we all sang the birthday song! Hehehe...

Grandma's 69th Birthday
They fought for the knife!!

Grandma's 69th Birthday
