Christchurch, New Zealand - 1

Left for Melbourne on 4th & after transiting (read: walking zombie at Melbourne airport for few hours), I reached Christchurch. This was my first visit outside South-East Asia.

Sunset on the KL-Mel route.

Flew with Air Asia (KL-Mel) and Pacific Blue (Mel-CHC). Both are LCC, and if you ask me to compare them, I will give two thumbs up for AirAsia anytime!

Perhaps you have heard this many times, but let me tell you again  - New Zealand is a beautiful country. It's clean, fresh and very 'laid back'. NZ is notable for amazing sky with long clouds, earning the name "Aotearoa". Christchurch, situated in the South Island, is NZ's second largest city. A totally gorgeous garden city. Coming from a thriving and busy Kuala Lumpur, CHC is definitely unique to me.

My first view of Christchurch, NZ.

The first day at CHC was spent resting and walking around Riccarton, a sub-urb. That's where we found Riccarton House & Bush. It's a well-kept heritage site in CHC. It was home to Canterbury's pioneering Deans family, the first Europeans settlers.

Riccarton House

A good place to rest & reflect

There were guided tours available for a small fee, but we were more interested in taking our own photos! :-) Plus, it was way too hot for us to spend a lot of time outside and we had to find a shopping mall for the aircond!

We stayed at Rydges, overlooking Avon River and Scott Memorial.

CHC is home to many sculptures. Two I liked most will be Scott Memorial and The Kate Sheppard Memorial. Scott Memorial was dedicated to Captain Robert Falcon Scott, the Antartic explorer and The Kate Sheppard was dedicated to Kate Sheppard & other women leaders who fought for voting rights.

Can't help but to pose with the flowers at Scott Memorial

Rest in the next installment :-)
