Friday, June 27, 2008

We are paranoids.
Well, most of us are paranoids. While certain degree of caution is needed for us to keeping on going and obviously to live in today's world, I don't think its necessary of us to be suspicious of every human being or every single thing we see.
When the a Gerakan member decided to take a job offer from a DAP-lead state government, he came under the fire from his party. He was seen as a person who betrayed his party but he only asked for them to see beyond the party flag. He was chosen because he was the man for that job and he was trusted even by an opponent party. But his own people (so to speak) failed to see this and of course, eventually he resigned from the party. In the end, his own party lost a credible person just because he is in someone else's payroll.
This is not only confined to politics but even to our daily affairs as well:
- Imagine being suspicious of your mechanic.. did he actually fix the car brake properly?
- Imagine being suspicious of your rival neighbor's 5 year old daughter befriending your son.. what is this girl trying to do to my son?
- Imagine being suspicious of the vegetable seller at the pasar malam.. did he spray excessive pesticides on these?
- Imagine being suspicious of your MP whom you (and your entirely family) unanimously voted for... he is on a deal with the opposition?
I can go on and on with this list. But let me ask you if such paranoid thinking would give you a peace of mind? It won't, and why would we want to subject ourselves to such mental agony? At times, we just have to trust people. Yes, we have to carefully analyze the situation and be prepared with a Plan B. That's all it takes.
Anyone can ask questions, but it takes a genuine person to answer it truthfully. And when one does, it is only wise to accept it with a little caution.

Song: Pulveli Movie: Aasai
Brilliant song which brings you closer to the nature. So beautifully captured and exactly what I need to watch right now. Doesn't matter if you can't understand a word of Tamil, Suvalakmi, the music and the scenes are enough to mesmerize you.

Sorry if I sound a little random today. Blurting out things as I feel. Have a good weekend everyone! :)

Just a hypothetical question which I would like some feedback on. Just imagine this:
You were happily blogging away for months or maybe years now. Your blog has nothing else except for truth and only the true experiences of your life. You were enjoying sharing them with your newly found blogmates, who gives suggestions and criticisms without having to face you in real. But your blog is well hidden from those you know in the real world. Everything seems to be fine...
Until one fine day, you found out that a cousin of yours has been reading your blog. Or your parents found out your blog by accident. Worse, your boss bumped to your blog.
Not that it landed you in a bitter row or civil suit, but it's the feeling of you being watched. You feel you are not invisible in the blogworld. You know you have been swearing a lot in your blog. You have been typing it away without fear. But now, someone is watching you. Reading everything you type (and read everything you typed). Freaky?
How this is going to change you and your writing style? Are you going to quit blogging all together or just gonna be more cautious in your writing? Or you simply don't care at all?
***
I don't know how reliable this is, but The Blog Readability Test says...Something to be proud of? Or I should start to worry because it needs high level of education to understand the content of this blog? Looking at the other side of the spectrum, it only means my blog readers are all geniuses!! Congrats everyone! *wink wink
And Happy Nostalgic Friday everyone:
One of my all time favorite...

Finally I got the photos from the organizers! :) You may want to read my previous post about the award I received from the Society HERE. Okie okie.. nothing much there except for a photo, which summarised the whole thing.
Maybe now I can brag elaborate a bit about it. It was an award for the Best Postgraduate Student@Postgrad Prize in the field of nutrition given by the Nutrition Society of Malaysia. Its an annual thingy and each year max 3 master graduates and max 3 PhD graduates will be selected nationwide for the award. This year, 3 master graduates and only 1 PhD graduate were selected. The award comes with a certificate and some handy cash prize as well :D

Award was given by the Founder of NSM - Dr Choong. Current President, Dr Tee is at the far left.

Proud moment to be cherished for a very long time *grins*
Maybe I should have acted rude and said 'no, i don't want an award which single just nutritionists from the rest of the world'. Some gestures are meant to be accepted with pride, and I feel honoured to walk up that stage for the second time (first was for my BSc) in my career. Oh boy, I'll sleep well tonite.
Besides, my little sister has revived her blog again. Hopefully it will last this time *grins again* This week's Nostalgic Friday is dedicated to her and her "she-shines":
Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!
Venillave with a little twist :)
Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!

Saturday, June 07, 2008
My apologies for skipping Nostalgic Friday post yesterday. Was out the whole day and the by the time I come back, I was dead tired.
Let's make up for it now :)
Beginning yesterday (or was it the day before?), Manya Blog Awards has been opened to all blog readers to cast their vote for their favourite blog. Simply put, it is a Malaysian Indian version of the famous Blogger Choice Awards. The differences? Manya is confined to short-listed Malaysian Indian blogs and awarded by Putera MIC, while Blogger Choice Awards is more global. As expected, there is a lot of criticisms thrown at Manya, but the efforts shown by Putera to gain back support of bloggers is commendable. No true blogger could be 'bought' by an award, and it will definitely not 'sway' us from our way of blogging. Some may not have that confidence, but I do.
Alright, more about Manya...
I don't want to bore you all with facts which you can read in Manya's home page. There are few bloggers within our blogging community who have been nominated for this year's award, including yours truly. Most of the nominated bloggers have accepted their nomination. There are 9 categories of awards, and two more 'special' awards - Readers' Choice Award + Putera's Award.
Now, the most important part of the post...

Besides, there are lot more other blogs which you may wanna get to know and vote as well!!
Start casting your vote now! :)

I have published this song before, but now I feel like wanna hear it again. Troubled time, my frens! :P

Friday, May 30, 2008
I wanted to blog about this quite sometime ago, but [excuse] other posts took precedence, and I didn't have the luxury of time to blog from campus (oppss.. that's a hint for next post). There was a news in the local newspaper which revealed a bizarre festival in Vietnam. It is called keo vo or simply - wife catching. Unable to believe my own eyes that such 'culture' exist at this era, I proceeded to google and landed in couple of news portals reported the same news.
In Viet Nam’s remote Vang Ma Chai Commune, a boy can seek out a potential lover, ‘catch’ her and take her home as his wife without having to go through an official ceremony.....
....children as young as 12 or 13 gather in the centre of the commune for another tradition, where a boy can seek out a potential lover, ‘catch’ her and take her home as his wife without having to go through an official ceremony.
I was like ..huh?? what happen to the usual courting, dating and marriage? And 12, 13 year old kids doing that? I remember playing football with the boys when I was 12!!!
Then I read further...
The girl will only be his if he manages to get her home. Once there, they live with each other and if after a few days they don’t like it, the girl can return home and wait for another suitor. As well as encouraging sex with minors, the habit is inevitably resulting in underage pregnancy.
I was wondering what kinda culture is this. The boy just simply catch a girl, bring her back home, live/have sex and next day if he doesn't like her or she doesn't like him, she just come back home like nothing happens? :-S
19-year-old Cheo Su Truong, employed at the commune’s veterinary unit. Truong is mother of two children, the oldest is five years old. Truong’s father became a grandfather when he was only 35.Once the match is established, that’s yours for life, complains Ly Y Thong, who caught a wife when he followed his friends to the festival when he was 13 years old.
“I have two children now. Sometimes I get so sick of my wife, she’s old. But I can’t divorce her.”
Okie, so now.. if you don't send her back after few days, you are stuck with her for the rest of your life. You got married when you are 13, becomes a father at 19 and you are sick of your wife... Well, it sounds more like a life-sentence to me!
The custom began with the wish of poor people who were in love but couldn’t afford a proper wedding ceremony. Unfortunately the custom has evolved into something quite different.
Thank goodness they actually explained the 'original' custom at the end of the article. I think the origin of such culture made sense but now, it sounds disgusting to me. I don't understand what makes it to difference to enforce law in that community, but again, I am living in an entirely different environment from these people. Thus, I may not be able to understand the difficulty the law enforcers and the teachers are facing.
I can't imagine someone 'catching' me to be his wife. Gross!!
And I still want a guy to droll over me like this video:
Movie: Yaaradi Nee Mohini
Song: Yengeyo paarthe

Movie: Sole thudikuthe manasu
Song: Poove sempoove
I was feeling moody and going through the youtube looking for some songs to sooth my soul. Found this song. I like the instrumental right before the lyric starts and after the lyric ends. Couldn't get hold of the instrumental only, hence sharing the whole song. Actually it was many people's favourite and still is. Enjoy the song and your weekend.
Hugss!

Confusion
Misunderstanding
Bickering
Fights
Hatred
War
Misunderstanding
Bickering
Fights
Hatred
War
I wonder if all these would exist if each of us lives a day at a time. Each us here includes me as well. What if we go to know that world is coming to an end tomorrow? Will we be still harbouring ill feeling towards others? Will we be still trying to snatch each other's lives? Will we be blogging trying to outdo others in the cyberworld? What will we be doing?
What will you do if you know that the world going to end tomorrow?
I have a perfect song for this question. The visualization of the song disappointed me a little, nevertheless AR Rahman's beautiful composition to Vairamuthu's lyrics is simply amazing.

Friday, February 22, 2008
Felt like the week just started and now it's already Friday! It only means I got to buck up, start visiting everyone's bloggie and post a Nostalgic Friday post.
This whole week has been really busy, and though I am no longer a fulltime staff in the university, I still find myself occupied everyday. *sigh... I need a life! Given that my free time is rather limited, I rarely read any forward e-mails, especially those with attachments. Unless it comes from special friends, of course. In one of such e-mail, I found Asin's modelling photo, trying her best to pout her lips to look like Angelina Jolie. For me, its pathetic. Can you just be yourself, Asin?
Okie, stop pouting YOUR lips everyone! It is NOT sexy!!
Meanwhile, listen to the song for this week while planning for a great weekend ahead. See ya all!

I had a hair cut yesterday. Not a drastic change, though I cut it layers and curled it slightly. The curls are temporary bcoz I wasn't so sure if it will look fine to me. The previous temporary curls I did was horrible. Now testing it with my senior hairstylist. Wanna check out what the majority says before I make it permanent. What do you say?

Among songs I love to hear again and again. Kinda cute I think.

We have a small man-made pond in my garden. Mom and bro being pet lovers, have at least 30 koi in it. Don't ask me how, they just grew up in harmony with two pots of lotus plants. Occasionally we have lotus blooming in there, and this morning I saw this flower. Pretty nah?
This is my fav background score by Illayaraja. No lyrics, no annoying voices.. just beautiful music that bring you to another world.
Have a great weekend everyone!

This is my 25th post under the Nostalgic Friday series. I know some of my readers purposely would visit on Fridays looking for 80s & 90s songs. Thank you guys!
The song for this week comes from the original Billa in the 1980, the year I was born. Well, it is not exactly original, but a remake of Amitabh's Don. Now that SRK has already acted in a remake of Don, it's Ajith's turn to act in the remake of Billa! Okie.. I am not very fond of Ajith, I admit that. So let's hope the latest Ajith's offering will change my perception of him. The movie is due to release on Dec 12 (I suppose), Rajinikanth's birthday and the trailer is all over the Internet.
Song: My name is Billa
